ASU Young Democrats to host Attorney General Debate

Apr 1, 12:41 PM by Erica Pederson

Congressman Harry Mitchell will vote YES to support health care reform!

Mar 19, 11:24 PM by Erica Pederson

Great news!

It was just confirmed hours ago that Congressman Harry Mitchell will be voting YES on Sunday to support health care reform.

This is a truly courageous and historic vote, one of the most important votes that Harry will cast in his entire career. Harry understands that our system needs reform, that too many families continue to be denied the care they need because of pre-existing conditions and skyrocketing costs, and that too many young people go without health coverage every day.

But we know that the insurance companies, the Tea Partiers, and those who benefit by blocking progress have vowed to stop at nothing to defeat Harry.

We MUST show Harry that we have his back!

Our task now is to show that there are thousands of Arizonans who stand with him. Please take a moment to send an email to your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Let them know that they can send Harry a quick message of support here:

www.harrymitchellforcongress.com/standwithharry

I can’t tell you how important this is. We need Harry to go into Sunday’s vote knowing that we have his back.

Post it on your Facebook, put it on your Twitter, send it out to your friends and family, we need to show Harry we are with him!

Not sure what to write in an email to your friends? Here is a sample message that you can send to your friends:

Dear Friends,

I have exciting news! Congressman Mitchell will be supporting health care reform.

Harry has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all Americans have access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Now the insurance companies, the Washington special interests and those who benefit by blocking progress are on the attack. They are attacking Harry for standing up to them and they are now more determined than ever.

Take 2 minutes and let Harry know that YOU have his back:

We need Harry to go into Sunday’s vote knowing that has our support.

Thank you for your work in spreading the message! Congressman Mitchell needs our support more than ever. Be sure to visit him everywhere on the web to send him messages of encouragement and gratitude.

Movie Night: Street Fight

Mar 5, 11:57 AM by Erica Pederson

It has become a tradition for the ASU Young Democrats to host a showing of the thrilling documentary Street Fight at least once per year. The movie follows candidate Cory Booker through his campaign to unseat the incumbent mayor of Newark, New Jersey. But instead of fighting this campaign on the radio or the television, this campaign is fought in the streets.

Regardless of whether you are seeing this movie for the first or fifth time, this is an inspiring story that demonstrates how exciting campaign work can be. We hope you can stop by to enjoy this movie with us!

To watch the trailer, click here

To catch the action, meet us at 6:30pm at Discovery Hall room 150!

Feel free to bring friends and snacks. Popcorn (and hot sauce) will be provided!

The Young Democrats of Arizona Convention

Feb 17, 11:43 AM by Erica Pederson

The Young Democrats of Arizona (YDAZ) Convention is coming up this February 27th! And this year, it’s going to be in the fabulous city of Tucson!

The annual YDAZ Convention is a great way to get valuable trainings, hear from candidates across the state, and meet and hang out with other young Democrats.

Also, the cost for Convention is only $5! And that includes lunch!

Due to insufficient funding from USG, we are still working out the logistics for staying in Tucson for the night, but we assure you it will be of little to no cost if you decide to stay after with us.

So in summary, here are the details:

– When: Saturday, February 27 – Sunday, February 28
– Where: Four Points Sheraton by the University of Arizona
– Carpool: Saturday morning at 7:30am in Discovery Hall parking lot (map)
– Cost: $5
– More details: Click Here

In order to confirm your attendance, you should do three things:

[1] Sign up here to confirm your ride to Tucson
[2] Sign up with YDAZ to confirm your lunch at Convention
[3] RSVP at our Facebook event page

As Nearly Free As Possible

Jan 14, 01:03 PM by Erica Pederson

For her senior thesis project, recent ASU graduate Elizabeth Teager directed and produced a 28-minute documentary about the university tuition setting process in Arizona. The film, titled “As Nearly Free As Possible,” seeks to expose the complicated process and show what the real cause for the recent increases in tuition: the current leadership in the Arizona Legislature.

I encourage everyone to watch this short yet enlightening film. It can be viewed online here.

This film only further showcases why a Democratic majority in the Arizona Legislature is so important. We need people in leadership who understand that properly funding education in this state will move us forward, and failing to do so will only cause us to fall even farther behind from where we are right now.
